Many of the villages along the lake are home to local markets that take place on a weekly basis. One of the most famous is the market at Luino, which dates back to 1541. Held every Wednesday throughout the year , it draws bargain hunters from as far away as Germany, Holland and Switzerland. If, however, you are looking for the smaller and quieter markets which have a greater emphasis on food, there is a wide selection to choose from. We particularly recommend the market in Cannobio.
Any keen shopaholics will of course be eager to visit Milan's Golden Triangle, where all the most famous fashion shops can be found. However do not forget that many designer shops are also to be found in Lugano, and if you prefer something a bit cheaper, there are some shopping outlets nearby, such as Foxtown in Mendrisio, Vicolungo Outlets and The Place Luxury Outlet. Meanwhile Alessi fans will be pleased to know that there is a fantastic factory and outlet shop in Omegna, where you can buy current line products at discounted prices. Bialetti and Lagostina also have factories and outlets located in Omegna.
